After 6 months of efficacy, safety, dosing and palatability testing, field trials at several veterinary clinics, and an ongoing study, ElleVet Sciences is pleased to introduce you to ElleVet Feline–our very first CBD oil for cats!

Since cats metabolize differently than dogs, a pharmacokinetic study was conducted to ensure accuracy in dosing for our CBD oil for cats. With this data, ElleVet has created a new modality for treating discomfort using hemp products for cats. We could not be more excited to be able to help cats, who traditionally have very few options to manage their discomfort.

The positive response from cats on ElleVet Feline has been remarkable. One veterinarian’s comment was “This is extraordinary, I can’t believe how well my patients are responding.”

The Science

How does Hemp work?

Hemp is not a mysterious substance, despite its reputation as a cure-all. There is hard science behind how hemp works, and why it works in dogs.

Hemp contains naturally occurring compounds called cannabinoids. There are over 140 known cannabinoids that have been identified in hemp and these cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system found in animals and in humans. Interested in learning more about cannabinoids? Check out our Pet Owners Guide to Cannabinoids.

Cannabinoid receptors are found throughout the body and the brain and the different receptors affect different functions. Some cannabinoid receptors work on sensation, some affect mood and some on appetite. As cannabinoid receptors are found in the brain, organs, peripheral nervous system, connective tissue, glands and immune cells. The function of the endocannabinoid system is to maintain a stable environment in the body and therefore it makes sense that cannabinoid receptors are present in so many different areas of the body and brain.

The cannabinoids found in hemp stimulates these receptors and can signal the body to build more cannabinoid receptors. This is why the ElleVet product may work better and better over time, as your dog’s body builds more receptors and promotes better results.

I recommended this product to my aunt for her elderly cat and cat won’t touch the food anymore if it is in it. The capsules are not an option because it’s unrealistic for her to pill a cat without getting injured. Any suggestions?

I just ordered more Feline Oil. My oldest cat was bedridden , getting up just for food and attempts to reach the litter box. Within a week he was walking around. Now he can be confused in any room of the house!

I understand the issue of taste I see in other reviews. One of the younger cats wanted to know what the old guy was getting so I rubbed a drop onto his gums. He did not like that at all.

As the old cat was already getting salmon oil, I just mix the Feline Oil with the salmon oil so it is well disguised.

I think I’ve figured out the missing link here guys. This stuff I d think was ever made to be given directly/mixed in food. B I was discouraged by that however!! Capsules! You can put it in a capsule and administer it to your cat splendidly. The company sent me some capsules. I felt they were too big for my cat so I cut them down some and put the oil in it. I popped the capsule in one of the greenies pill pockets (cheese and tuna flavor) and my picky siamese gulped it right down. Since then I’ve also tried this approach with size 4 or 5 pill capsules and have had equal success. They’re small enough that you can manually administer it if need be too. This approach has entirely bypassed the foaming at the mouth etc that was happening when trying to give it to my kitty in other ways and she’s reaping the benefits from the oil. I would strongly recommend trying the capsule method before giving up. This oil does seem to work better than other brands I’ve tried.

My 17-year-old man is eating better and ore active since I started giving him the Ellevet CBD oil. I give it in the capsules because it does smell–and probably taste–really acrid. I can’t imagine a cat that would eat this mixed into food. The capsules slide down easily, especially if I wet them slightly first, and I can put all his other meds in as well, which is a huge plus. Very happy with this product!

I recently ordered your product for two cats with wildly different issues. We’ve only been using the oil for three weeks, so I’m not able to give a true review as to its effectiveness. I will say that the four year old has stopped self-mutilating- we were on the verge of amputation, so this is a huge relief. The 14 year old is a more complicated case, but I think the oil is helpful for him in improving comfort. Mainly I wanted to say that I really appreciate your company’s honesty and integrity. I’m always a bit iffy about products of this kind. Many companies claim their CBD oil completely cures everything from cancer to the common cold. You are upfront about the possible benefits without making wild claims. You are also upfront about the taste factor. The provided gel capsules made it easy for me to give both cats the oil and I’ve had no issues getting them to accept their daily pills. I don’t think they would be willing to take it as a straight oil, even mixed in food, and again I’m impressed that you admit the taste is an obstacle. When I spoke to my vet about CBD oil she recommended Ellevet specifically. Like me she is a more skeptical sort, but she attended a presentation from a representative and was impressed.

The change in my 19 year old cat is vividly clear. She was beginning to barely move and her hind legs struggled to hold her up. After 30 days she’s jumping up on chairs and tables, standing upright to scratch the couch, and basically being an entitled old lady with the mobility of a middle aged cat. I’m only interested in quality of life care in my cats waning years, and this product absolutely has helped my cat be her best self and enjoy life again in a new light. Pro tips I definitely had to mask the drops in a tasty sauce to get her to eat it. Also, i adjusted the dose to 2 drops, twice a day. She was getting too wild on the suggested dosing of 4 drops, twice a day.

my 20 year old Siamese cat would just wait to be served food, water, given attention all from one chair near her picture window. I started giving her ellevet for cats and wow, she now tours all 3 floors of the house again and is having a great time! Its nice to have her jump up on the couch or bed to join me! I put the oil on her paws and rub it in. Sometimes I use alittle (very dry) swipe on her inner ears. I have been doing this to her for 5 months and the benefits to her have been incredible.

  8. Alyssa

This really has helped Candy tremendously. She is jumping up on the bed & couch again, walking and running for being 19 years old! Before I put her on cannabis, I found her in her bed, unable to move and urined on her self, but as soon as I had her on cannabis, within a day, you can see the difference in her behavior.

My 16-years-old orange tabby has some discomfort and has been less active and reclusive. My vet clinic said there are limited long-term medication options for this, but said that it would be fine if I wanted to try CBD oil. When I ordered it, I was cautiously hopeful. Based on my own online reading, sometimes I read that it may take weeks for cats to respond to the benefits. To my surprised delight, within two days, my old tabby started to show obvious improvements to his mobility, behavior, and activity level. His appetite is good, he comes out and about more. Thank you!
